Project Green Fleet, a statewide effort to retrofit older diesel school buses and other heavy-duty vehicles with pollution control equipment to reduce emissions, is getting another push this summer.

The Minnesota Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) kicked off an outreach campaign in May to promote Project Green Fleet among fleet managers and school districts. The campaign will continue through September, said Patrick Santelli, CERTS coordinator.

Retrofits have been done on more than 1,800 school buses in Minnesota, from Rochester to Roseau, since Project Green Fleet began in 2005 as a program of the Minnesota Environmental Initiative (MEI) in collaboration with businesses, government agencies and nonprofits. More than 300 other diesel vehicles, including dump trucks and snowplows, have also gone through the retrofitting process.
