Northwest Clean Energy Resource Team to Learn about Clean Energy Efforts at BSU & University of Minnesota-Crookston
Bemidji, Minnesota – December 23rd, 2008 – A variety of clean energy projects being led by students and faculty at both Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota-Crookston will be highlighted at a ½ day green campus forum at Bemidji State University on Tuesday, January 27th, from 1:00 to 4:30pm. The Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT) forum is free and open to the public.
The programs and projects to be highlighted show the range of projects the two universities are working on. BSU Professor Anna Carlson will present about the CERT-funded Greenhouse Gas inventory project, and BSU Sustainability Coordinator Erika Bailey-Johnson will talk about her work on campus. Also David Bahr, Department Chair of Physics/Science, will discuss energy efficiency research.
After a break, students and faculty from Crookston will present. “I’ll introduce the team and talk a little about sustainability projects happening around campus,” says Linda Kingery, Director of the NW Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships. “Professor Paul Aakre will discuss research on farm-scale biofuel production and student Chris Waltz will present on his work trying to get new student dormitories LEED certification.” Both campuses are participants in the new Minnesota Schools Cutting Carbon program and students will also share their thoughts on moving forward with this endeavor.
“This is a great opportunity for the two campuses to share information and ideas about the clean energy projects that they are working on,” says Anthony Schaffhauser, Executive Director, Center for Research and Innovation (CRI) & Custom College. “We hope people will join us and learn about what our students and faculty our doing as well as share their own ideas.”
