On Thursday, May 3rd, I was excited to work on behalf of the Mahtomedi Area Green Initiative (MAGI)—a Metro CERT Affiliate—to help put together a community workshop in Mahtomedi titled, Solar Works! in the Mahtomedi Area. The event was part of a series of workshops organized by the Metro Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT).
It was great to have 46 people from our community in attendance to learn how they can add solar energy projects to their homesw. Todd Fink, an instructor in the renewable energy program at Century College, did a great job talking about the benefits and opportunities currently available from grants and other special offers to make solar affordable. We were also able to hear from a couple of community members that have installed solar electric and hot water systems on their homes. They shared both excitement about their systems and a lot of good advice about solar energy.
As a student at Mahtomedi High School, I am concerned about the future of our planet. It is important that we all try to do things that will have the least impact on the environment. Solar energy helps reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere because it is a renewable source of power and creates very little pollution. Hopefully, because of our workshop, more people will consider going solar in our community!
