Koda Energy Biomass Project

Koda Energy is a partnership between Rahr Malting Company- a family owned business based in Shakopee and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community. These two organizations have joined together to create a combined heat and power (CHP) biomass facility that will serve them both.

Rock-Tenn's Recycling Plant: A Coal Plant's Closure Spurs New Biomass Possibilities

The goal of the assessment was to determine what fuel sources the plant has available to it, characterize the fuel sources, and then look at long-term viability of the fuel source to power the plant for the remainder of its lifespan. The assessment covered a wide range of potential biomass fuels, including urban waste wood, oat hulls, corn stover, grasses, and forest residues.
