Basic:
There are a lot of new lighting options out there today, so the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) has created a suite of resources to help you find your way! They provide a bulb guide, recycling options, links, and an email help line. Their Right Light Guide will illuminate the main differences between the types of bulbs available, how to identify the brightness of light bulbs, how to read the new labels, and even a shopping list to take to the store. Find the right light for you today at http://lighting.mncerts.org.

Right Light Guide for printing

We’re providing press quality versions so you can print and share them—so either print them in-house or take them to your local print shop! They’re all ready to go for either use.

Specifically for utilities: The guide has already been customized for over 75 utilities, and we would love to create a custom guide with your branding that you can share with your customers! See a template or an an example for Owatonna Public Utilities. We’ll make this for you. Just email Dan Thiede at thie0235@umn.edu with these items:

Name of utility as you want it printed
High resolution logo (EPS and AI files preferred)
Phone number for primary consumer contact
Utility website you want included
How you plan to share the guide, and how many people it will reach

Other ideas for sharing:

Hardware stores can laminate one and hang it in their lighting aisle
Local governments can distribute the guide to their citizens—or just include a link to it in their newsletters
Organizations can provide printed copies to their audiences, spread the word in their newsletters and at events
Individuals can spread the word via email and social media, give copies to friends, family, and co-workers, and hang up a sign in local coffee shops and gathering places

Release: Lighting guide helps curious and confused shoppers choose new bulbs

Statewide, MN – “All I wanted was a light bulb that would look and feel the same as my old bulb,” said Shaina Brassard, a Minneapolis resident. “When you go to the store you have so many choices now—it can be confusing.”

It’s now been two months since new national light bulb standards took effect, and Brassard and others like her want to make a good choice when a light burns out and they head to the store to replace it.

A free guide released recently by the Clean Energy Resource Teams is helping residents by illuminating all light bulb options—incandescents, halogens, compact-fluorescents (CFLs), and new light-emitting diodes (LEDs)—comparing costs, longevity, brightness, and color.
