Become a Metro CERTs Affiliate

Background

The Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) program is a statewide effort in Minnesota to connect people with the technical resources they need to identify and implement community-scale energy efficiency and clean energy projects. For multiple reasons—slowing global warming, energy security, dwindling supplies of fossil fuels, saving money—our society is undergoing a fundamental transformation of our energy system away from fossil fuels and toward energy efficiency and renewable energy. There is a unique opportunity for communities to get involved in shaping their own energy future. CERTs was created to help provide the tools to make this happen.

The Metro CERTs Network is one of seven CERTs regions in Minnesota, and is coordinated by the Green Institute. The Metro region has specifically been set up as a network, in order to help encourage and support the many existing local clean energy efforts. The Metro CERTs Network has the following goals:

  • Create a network to support and encourage collaboration among Twin Cities community-based energy projects and planning efforts
  • Provide organizing support to help local efforts get off the ground
  • Connect local efforts with technical resources
  • Help the State of Minnesota achieve its energy efficiency and renewable energy goals.

The Metro CERTs Network is looking for communities that share the CERTs vision of communities working together to achieve a clean energy future to join the Metro CERTs Network as an Affiliate group.

Our pledge to you

By becoming a CERTs Affiliate we will work to provide the resources to help you develop successful projects:

  • Assistance with project templates, project analysis and selection
  • Connection to resources (technical, organizing, and funding)
  • Help measuring the success of your project
  • Help in getting the most bang out of your energy dollars

Your commitment to the Network

We want to work with groups that are committed our common goals. To become a Metro CERTs Affiliate your community simply needs to pledge to the following:

  • Have a desire to work on local clean energy efforts, with a bias toward action, in the Twin Cities region
  • Share the common goals of working to reduce energy use and increase renewable energy
  • Agree to work cooperatively with Metro CERTs and other Affiliate groups towards our common goals
  • Be willing to be a mentor community to other communities that share our goals
  • Agree to seek out projects that get the most bang for the energy dollar
  • Consider appointing a representative to the Metro CERTs Steering Committee
