About the program

Minnesota Schools Cutting Carbon is a three-year initiative to give up to 100 Minnesota public high schools, colleges, and universities technical assistance and mini-grants to make their schools more energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The program is focused on helping schools reduce their carbon in two ways:
    1. Supporting carbon-cutting student-led projects
    2. Improving building operations and maintenance

Student-led projects

Does your school already have strong student leadership determined to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but need further resources to implement your energy projects? We will be providing 100 school teams with guidance and $250-$500 mini-grants to work on in-school student-led projects. During the second year of the initiative, school teams will be eligible for grants of up to $20,000 for innovative carbon-cutting projects. Schools selected to participate will be able to actively track and celebrate their success on our website, as well as communicate with other student teams about their projects! Apply now!

Building operations & maintenance

If your building is considered under-performing in terms of energy usage, working on your building’s energy efficiency will make substantial reductions in their greenhouse gas emissions. This program can help you save energy and money! Apply now!
