Primary Duties

Job Summary

Hybrid work environment with potential for significant telework. Primary work location will be the Golden Rule Building in St. Paul.

To serve as the State Energy Office's building science subject matter lead with an understanding of topics spanning energy efficient building technologies, engineering opportunities in large scale commercial and industrial processes, and commercial and residential codes. This person will lead the department's technical assistance efforts to achieve the goals set forth in the 2040 Action Plan. This position is responsible for working closely with state, local, and tribal governments in the development and implementation of advanced building technologies and energy efficiency process upgrades as well as providing state government technical expertise in the development of the energy code.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, building science, green architecture, or related AND 4 (four) years professional experience in the area of building sciences or codes, such as a Building Inspector, Energy Auditor, or in Building/Industrial operations.

OR

Advanced degree in engineering, building science, green architecture, or related AND 3 (three) years professional experience in the area of building sciences or codes, such as a Building Inspector, Energy Auditor, or in Building/Industrial operations.

OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

  • Strong writing, interpretation, and communication skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current energy codes, advanced building technologies and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to work independently, and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Focus and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and be able to work closely with lead staff and decision makers
  • Excellent Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe skills.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
