July 27, 2022 | 1-2:30 p.m.

Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources
Event Description

The Great Plains Institute, the University of Minnesota Extension Regional Sustainable Development Partnership (RSDP), COPAL MN, and the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) were awarded a CARD grant in 2021 to conduct research in the Latinx business community. The project aimed to:
• understand the implementation rates of commercial energy efficiency utility programs among Latinx-owned businesses in Minnesota;
• identify and document participation barriers;
• assess the potential to improve implementation rates throughout these communities; and
• work with business owners to increase understanding of existing program offerings and opportunities.

Kristoffer Acuña, Great Plains Institute, Alexis Troschinetz, Clean Energy Resource Teams, and Leslee Gutierrez, COPAL MN, will discuss findings from the project, which included interviews with Latinx small businesses, utilities, community support organizations, and a statewide survey to Latinx owned businesses.

The webinar will highlight barriers identified and insights from the 20 in-person, half-hour interviews of business owners in four study communities in Wilmar, Worthington, West St. Paul, and Austin Minnesota. The interviews asked a variety of questions focused on the business' needs, their energy uses, participation in any utility or energy programs, how they communicate with their utility, efficiency projects completed or planned, and more.

This webinar will include Simultaneous Interpretation in Spanish.
