In May 2018, Great River Energy adopted a corporate goal to achieve 50 percent renewable energy for its 20 all-requirements member-owner cooperatives by 2030. Great River Energy had already met Minnesota’s 25 percent renewable energy standard in 2017, eight years ahead of the requirement. The goal establishes interim goals of 30 percent by 2020 and 40 percent by 2025.

Evolving its power supply portfolio by delivering even more renewable energy to its member-owner cooperatives will help them remain competitive in a changing market. Great River Energy has spent more than a decade positioning its portfolio, lowering costs and reducing dependence on coal as a fuel source while improving the overall flexibility of its generation portfolio. These measures have resulted in a 35 percent reduction in Great River Energy’s carbon dioxide emissions since 2005.

Mark Rathbun of Great River Energy will discuss the company’s plans to meet the 50% x 2030 goal.
