Although prepaid electricity is common in some regions of the world, it is relatively new to the Unites States. What is the potential of this type of payment plan as an energy efficiency program in Minnesota, and why is it controversial? The CARD program funded research by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and Seventhwave to explore the elements of prepaid plans that may lead to reductions in electricity usage and examine potential benefits and drawbacks for utilities and customers.

In this webinar, researchers will share their findings and make recommendations for how Minnesota utilities could develop pilot programs to better understand whether prepaid electricity plans are appropriate for inclusion in Conservation Improvement Program portfolios.
