Midwest Regional Director
CICE has an immediate opening for full-time Midwest Regional Director who will help build CICE’s network of chambers of commerce in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other strategic Midwest states.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable doing outreach to chamber of commerce executives to educate and engage them on clean energy issues, economic development opportunities associated with clean energy, and, where appropriate, climate action. Ideally, the candidate will have experience working in public policy, clean energy issues, and/or campaign experience and have experience working with chambers of commerce/economic development organizations.
CICE is based out of San Francisco, but the employee for this position must live in the Midwest. CICE does not have office space and employee will work from home.

The Midwest Regional Director will be responsible for outreach to chambers of commerce and economic development organizations, educating them on various clean energy and climate policies; clean energy technologies including, but not limited to, solar, offshore and onshore wind, energy storage, electric vehicles and EV infrastructure; and clean energy economics and market trends. The Midwest Regional Director will work to position chamber, economic development, and business executives as spokespeople and messengers for the economic benefits of clean energy in the region. Additionally, this person will help organize related events, draft chamber profiles for distribution, and work with partner organizations in these states.
This position is supported by a team of seasoned policy, outreach, and communications professionals.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Work with the Executive Director to determine and implement engagement strategies for Midwest states
● Engage with other regional directors on strategies, tactics, best practices, and opportunities for engagement
● Coordinate with other business-focused organizations and allies with similar goals
● Work with chamber and economic leaders in Midwest states to organize convenings focused on the adoption of clean energy policies, programs, and projects
● Interview chambers to learn about their clean energy efforts and assist in drafting stories about each
● Attend chamber and economic development meetings and conferences to share CICE’s priorities, positions, and services
● Take the lead in developing new opportunities for engaging local chambers in the clean energy space
Ideally, we are looking for someone with the following experience, knowledge base, and skills:
● At least 5 years of experience as an organizer, coalition builder, outreach professional, or public affairs
● Experience with and/or working for a chamber of commerce or economic development organization
● Outgoing, comfortable making calls to people you don’t know, and strong at relationship building, especially with the private sector and chambers of commerce
● Experience in the clean energy space or working on campaigns is a plus
● An understanding of the economics, policies, and political sensitivities associated with clean energy
● An understanding of the importance of communications and messaging
● A strong strategic mind set and proven ability to translate strategy into action
● Demonstrated experience handling multiple assignments simultaneously
● Flexibility and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team
● Ability to work independently in a virtual business environment
