The Midwestern Building Policy Manager will work with the Director of Building Decarbonization Policy and Projects to support all aspects of the Coalition’s ongoing policy work, as guided by our coalition’s vision of equitable building decarbonization and values statement. This includes supporting and managing Midwest BDC policy working groups, coordinating coalition engagement with state/federal/local policy opportunities, and ensuring appropriate education and onboarding for members working to advance the Coalition’s policy goals.

Salary

The annual salary is $75,000 with full medical/dental/vision, and retirement benefits, plus generous leave time. 

Qualified candidates desiring less than full-time work at a prorated salary may be considered. 

Hours

The position is full-time, exempt, with flexible hours and a high degree of autonomy.

Primary Duties
  • Represent Midwest BDC and advocate for building decarbonization in related state/local networks, calls, and coalitions. Serve as a resource on building decarbonization policy to coalition members seeking to introduce or promote new state/local policy.

  • Track the state of equitable building decarbonization policy in Midwest BDC priority states. Develop and maintain a landscape analysis and other tools for staff and coalition members to easily access relevant information.

  • Evaluate model or proposed state/local policies to determine how they align with coalition goals and make engagement recommendations to Midwest BDC staff and coalition members.

  • Work with the Policy Director and working group co-leaders to draft comments or letters on behalf of the coalition and organize additional sign-ons and support.

  • Develop tools and trainings that make building decarbonization policy and advocacy accessible to all coalition members.

  • Assist the Policy Director and working group co-leaders in facilitating Midwest BDC’s policy-focused working groups, such as facilitating meetings, taking notes, and setting agendas.

  • Work with the Communications & Digital Marketing Manager to highlight the coalition’s policy work through blog posts and the development of outreach campaigns. 

Experience
  • Have a passion for gender, racial, economic, and social justice, along with a commitment to the Coalition’s mission, vision, and values. 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (climate/environmental science, public policy, etc.) preferred. Candidates with Associate's or unrelated education may be considered with relevant previous professional experience in decarbonization, climate justice, or energy policy.

  • Be highly organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be well versed in relevant software tools (Word, Excel, Google online business tools, Canva, Powerpoint)

  • Have the ability to set clear priorities and goals for themselves, embrace opportunities to start and build new initiatives in collaboration with coalition members, self-motivated to seek out new opportunities to advance the Coalition’s mission 

  • Be collaborative, efficient, enthusiastic, and flexible, and comfortable working in an informal office environment with dedicated, hard-working, opinionated, irreverent, fun, flexible, quirky people!
