Minnesota State University Mankato is being recognized for its energy conservation efforts.

The school has replaced most of its incandescent and fluorescent lighting with energy efficient LED bulbs and upgraded their heating and cooling systems.

Scott Kurtz from Xcel Energy said, “The end result of those projects were savings, annual energy savings of about 5,000,000 kilowatt hours a year, which equates to about $400,000 off of their energy bill.”

MSU also received about $500,000 dollars from Xcel Energy that was used for those energy-saving upgrades.
