Primary Duties

As an Innovation Engineer, You Wil

  • Review and refine the objectives, business case, and development pathway for each concept
  • Work with Innovation teams to move concepts through development pathways
  • Effectively identify and partner with internal and external agents to design, manufacture and test each innovative product, process or system
  • Navigate vendor, OEM and customer relationships and contracts, and the regulatory environment
  • Ensure proper legal procedures and confidentiality measures are applied to protect intellectual property
  • Ensure every innovation is 100% functional and accepted by the operational team before moving on to the next innovation project
  • Be transparent about innovations that do not meet requirements
  • Openly communicate and celebrate failures as a learning mechanism for the company
  • Effectively quantify and communicate all positive results
  • Establish and cultivate effective industry partnerships for collaborative innovation
  • Project business impact of investment in a concept
  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
  • All other duties as assigned
Experience

We'd Love to Hear from People With 

  • Strong problem-identification and problem-solving skills
  • Detail orientation and shown ability to manage multiple, complex initiatives, acting as an agent of change
  • Shown ability to translate, document and communicate technical requirements from craft personnel to external vendors and trade partners
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills
  • Results orientation to ensure execution takes priority over conceptualization
  • Possess understanding of construction and engineering principles
  • Advanced Microsoft Office and web application skills
  • Intermediate CAD, ArcGIS and/or CPM scheduling experience
  • Shown positive and professional attitude and strong customer service skills
  • Resilient and highly accepting of change based on diverse input and feedback
  • Strong network and knowledge of Midwest rapid prototyping, machining, tooling/rigging manufacturing and engineering design firms, with a proven ability to identify partners who will drive projects to completion
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  • Ability to travel 100%

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Innovation, Rapid Prototyping, Product Development, Tool Design & Fabrication, Robotics or related field
  • Construction experience preferred
  • Current driver’s license
