Primary Duties

The Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) is seeking a talented, energetic and enthusiastic analyst to join our research team. CEE is a nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency to strengthen the economy while improving the environment. The Research Group at CEE primarily conducts applied research in areas of energy efficiency, building science, and energy systems. The Research Analyst will be supervised by a Senior Research Engineer and will be involved in a variety of research projects. This position will be split between two core duties: data reduction, analysis and data collection for field studies. This position offers a beneficial variety of exposure to a myriad of issues that shape energy efficiency, including the pragmatic technical training that comes with field work. The right candidate will have strong analytic capabilities and a sense of curiosity, with a desire to work with their hands to learn about energy systems and energy efficiency.

  • Acquire, manage, and process building, and energy system data.

  • Develop, deploy and maintain data acquisition equipment and data processing workflows.

  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings from other research.

  • Carefully document project work, track effort, and manage multiple project priorities.

  • Perform building energy performance plan, specification and submittal reviews.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Job Requirements

  • BS/BA in applied physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related technical field required.

  • Working knowledge of heat transfer and energy systems is required.

  • At least one year’s experience working in a technical field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated drive and motivation to conduct field/analysis research in the energy field.

  • Strong facility with Microsoft Excel and aptitude for programming. Experience with R, Matlab, or Python for data analysis is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications as needed.

  • Demonstrated analytical abilities and understanding of basic statistical methods.

  • Self-motivated, responsible, efficient, and accurate. Must demonstrate excellent time-management and organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. 

  • Training or experience with measurements and computerized data acquisition is preferred.

  • Aptitude for hands-on work in the field.

  • Comfortable interacting with project participants including homeowners, renters, building operators, and facilities managers.

  • Strong communication abilities, including the ability to speak and write for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with the use of BAS and/or other HVAC controls preferred.

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis as well as carry, push, pull, kneel and squat;  Must be able to lift, carry, push,  and pull up to 50 pounds as needed (approximately 10%).

  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions. 

  • Must have access to reliable transportation, including capacity to transport equipment as needed within specific timeframes. 

  • Flexibility is required: site visits may require significant work outside the office and outside typical workday hours.

  • Experience with building plan review or preparation preferred.

  • Experience with building energy simulation preferred.
