Event Description

Solar MN is a gathering every other month of people working in and around Minnesota's solar industry, including installers, developers, nonprofits, utilities, researchers, and local government representatives. The group gathers the second Monday of even months to exchange information and opportunities. To register for this and future meetings, fill out a brief form.

 

June 14, 2021 Agenda & Speakers:

  • MRES Update - Doug Shoemaker, Minnesota Renewable Energy Society
     
  • MnSEIA Update - Peter Teigland, Minnesota Solar Energy Industries Association
     
  • Kaizhong Gao, Ph. D. with International Business and Technology Service Corporation (IBT) will share about their Cool Tech Solar heatsink project and the US DOE American Made Solar Prize.
     
  • Louise Miltich and Jamie MacAlister with Energy Environmental Review & Analysis at Minnesota Department of Commerce will talk about utility-scale solar permitting and developing a vegetation management plan.
     
  • Dan Shaw, Senior Ecologist & Vegetation Specialist with the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR), will discuss their Habitat Friendly Solar Program and recent updates.
     
  • Angie Berg, Land Use Division Supervisor with Stearns County, will share local solar permitting experiences from a county with a high level of solar development.
     
  • Aaron Hanson, Energy Program Specialist with Leadership and Education at University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment, will preview a new GIS tool for solar siting decision support they've been developing for Murray County, and also share other solar+pollinator habitat and agrivoltiacs research.
     
  • Bruce Anderson, Solar Technical Assistance Liaison with Minnesota Department of Commerce, will speak about the Weatherization Assistance Program’s solar PV pilot program and the upcoming expansion of this program to be a statewide initiative and upcoming opportunities for installers.
