Primary Duties

Hybrid work environment with potential for significant telework.

The primary purpose of this position is to utilize building science techniques to lead all technical monitoring activities for the Weatherization Assistance Program.

This position coordinates all WAP technical monitoring activities and provides final oversight of local grantees (aka Service Providers) through the certified Quality Control Inspections. When necessary, this position also provides direct technical compliance monitoring, as well as related reporting and technical assistance following USDOE guidelines.

This position works closely with the program supervisor and other coordinators to establish and implement approaches and direct and assign staff and manage ad hoc program contractors engaged in activities to achieve program objectives. 


Minimum Qualifications

Applicants are encouraged to include in their resume submittal to specifically demonstrate how they meet the following qualifications.

Bachelor's degree in Building Science, Environmental Architecture or related degree or trades program AND 4 years of professional experience in a related field; 


Advanced degree in Building Science, Sustainable Design or related program AND 3 years of professional experience in a related field;


Equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education, and experience. 

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated based on the following:

  • Valid MN driver's license (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals of varying backgrounds, skill levels, and communication styles both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to remain positive and maintain integrity while being flexible and adaptable to a changing policy and program landscape; and
  • Embodiment of core monitoring values of: equity, consistency, clarity, and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with computerized and manual energy audits

Certification as a BPI Quality Control Inspector

Strong academic or professional writing experience

Work experience leading, managing, or coordinating a team

Demonstrable knowledge of emerging building technologies

Direct experience with residential construction, codes, or energy design

Experience working in a low-income weatherization program or other energy conservation programs OR in the residential construction industry, including construction, repair, rehabilitation, or inspection

Current certification or ability to obtain NREL Quality Control Inspector Certification within six months of hire

Physical Requirements

Position involves extended periods of sitting, typing, note-taking, conversing with callers, and the ability to move files/equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
