Helping educate whole communities about clean energy
When I requested CERTs funding to build a solar thermal space heating system on the Melva Lind Interpretive Center here on campus, I imagined using it to talk to college classes about renewable energy. That has happened several times and will happen again, but the benefit is not just limited to our campus. Last Thursday (Earth Day), several groups of second graders from the elementary school came up to campus for 30-minute presentations on solar water heating. CERTs is helping educate whole communities about clean energy.

Advice, networking, examples, and grants
CERTs was a great resource for our community when we were planning for how to build our new community center in the most sustainable way. They provided advice, networking, helpful examples, and later, grant money! Our project has been a long process but CERTs has been involved from the very beginning, and we are looking forward to the day when one of the NE CERT meetings will be held in our new facility and we can show off the project in which CERTs was so instrumental.

A key partner in statewide outreach
Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM) was able to get our new Recycle Your Holidays program to rural parts of the state with CERTs' help. It was great to know that our program would reach many parts of the state in the first year of the program!! CERTs was a great team member and we hope to work on other programs in the near future.

Inspiring creativity and collaboration
"CERTs' support of K-12 public schools is rare and extremely appreciated. One of the best parts of the grants is the creativity and collaboration that the projects develop within our school district. We have people working together who rarely work together or who have never worked together. The other great part of the grants is that they make other grants and future projects possible and become catalyst for more ideas. Thank you for all that you do!"

One of our most valued partners
CERTs has been a valued partner, working in collaboration with Winona State University and other organizations to develop a new curriculum for adult learners called Energy Resource Advisor. This certificate, the first of its kind in Minnesota, is ready to be launched. It will create an incredible statewide network, and it will accelerate public understanding of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability issues. CERTs staff were instrumental in making this happen.

Funding, friendship, and technical expertise
"CERTs has been a tremendous resource for Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center and the Youth Energy Summit (YES!). The CERTs network has provided funding, friendship and technical expertise at critical points over the past five years to help Prairie Woods achieve a goal of 100% renewable energy by the close of 2010, a goal that we will substantially complete. CERTs has also provided tremendous support for YES! teams though grants to implement youth-led renewable energy and energy conservation projects in communities throughout West Central and Southwest Minnesota. CERTs has great staff, and we truly appreciate their creativity, support and ability to facilitate networking opportunities in our region."

Helping our region advance community-scale projects
Our state is fortunate to have CERTs, which has been a valuable asset in assisting in the development of community-scale projects in our region. They are a go-to organization that provides the technical assistance we need in rural MN. Thank you CERTs!

A catalyst for energy efficiency and renewable energy
By convening the NW Steering Committee and enlisting key experts and stakeholders, CERTs has been a catalyst for energy efficiency and renewable energy advances in the Northwest Region of MN. Our work to connect with Northwest MN municipal electric utilities on conservation improvement programs is providing a substantial immediate impact. I also expect significant impacts from our modest yet well-placed investments in renewable energy information and technology.
