Primary Duties

As Vice President, you will lead all aspects of electric operations for a 130,000+ account, 9,000 miles of primary, electric distribution utility serving in a 1000 square mile service territory. You will oversee engineering planning and design, a 24-hour dispatch center, fleet, vegetation management, GIS, and construction/maintenance of the electrical distribution system. As member of the executive team, you'll work collaboratively to develop and implement the goals, objectives and strategies of the organization—supporting the CEO in fostering a transparent, respectful, and positive relationship with our board of directors and employees. You'll be expected to lead by example and foster a management culture that engages employees and live the ethic of service to our member owners.


  • Work with senior management to formulate and execute the company's strategic plan

Construction & Maintenance

  • Oversee the construction, maintenance and safe operation of the electric distribution system
  • Analyze and determine the most cost-efficient methods to improve reliability
  • Analyze and determine the appropriate staffing levels to achieve optimum performance


  • Oversee the Engineering design and planning of the system to ensure the highest level of reliability and member satisfaction
  • Analyze and make recommendations that result in the most cost-efficient processes, methods, and designs that balance cost, reliability, and member service
  • Maintain and monitor the GIS system to assure adequate representation of our assets and accurate configuration of our electric system
  • Monitor substation assets to maximize utilization. Maintain an aggressive substation PM program to avoid unplanned substation outages
  • Lead grid modernization initiatives to optimize grid efficiency, enable distributed resource integration including grid scale solar and batteries, and assure cyber and physical security of our grid infrastructure, AMI, and network

Operations/System Control

  • Direct the operation of the electric distribution system during normal and emergency conditions
  • Inform the CEO and leadership of significant events affecting the electric distribution system, including the ramifications and recommendations for actions
  • Accountable for maintaining strong working relationships with union leaders and partnering with HR on negotiations, grievances, and interpretation of contract language
  • Observe prudent business practices to ensure compliance with regulatory, standards, rules and covenants
  • Oversee the 24-hour dispatch center and system control area to assure efficient and safe operation of the company's distribution system
  • Maintain and monitor our outage management system to ensure fast and efficient power restoration
  • Maintain and monitor supervisory control and data acquisition system

Vegetation Management/Fleet

  • Oversee our critical vegetation management program
  • Oversee and monitor the cost-effective operation and maintenance of our sizeable fleet

Division Leadership

  • Challenge, understand and support managers to assist them in making good decisions
  • Facilitate interdepartmental solutions
  • Provide vision and interpretation of strategies
  • Create measurements that define success and member satisfaction
  • Actively coach, mentor, and develop leaders preparing for successiond member satisfaction

Required Education and Expertise

  • BS Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • (Preferred) Masters in Engineering: Electrical or Mechanical or MBA
  • 10 years of electric distribution experience
  • 10 years exceptional people leadership experience
  • Highest level of personal integrity, ethics, and strong interpersonal skills
  • (Preferred) Professional Engineering License
