Webinar: Understanding Market Barriers & Opportunities for Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pumps

April 1, 2020 | 2-3pm

Minnesota Department of Commerce
Event Description

Utilities are invited to learn about awareness of and attitudes toward cold climate air source heat pumps (ccASHPs) in residential households in Minnesota. In this CARD-funded webinar, Amalia Hicks and Kristie Rupper from Cadmus will provide an overview of the findings from primary and secondary research they conducted to assess:

  • Awareness of ccASHP technology among consumers in single-family households in Minnesota

  • Consumer and HVAC contractor attitudes toward electric heating to identify preconceived stigmas (e.g., the belief that heat pumps do not work in cold climates)

  • HVAC contractors’ willingness to recommend ccASHPs to consumers

  • Consumers’ willingness to purchase ccASHPs at various incentive levels

  • Perceived benefits of the technology that resonate the most among consumers

  • Challenges and opportunities faced by trade allies that manufacture, distribute, and install ccASHPs

The webinar will provide program design guidance and make recommendations to Minnesota utilities to design for and deploy ccASHPs in their energy efficiency programs.
