Primary Duties

Position: Industrial Services Engineer

Location: Fergus Falls, MN* or within service territory

Description:

At Otter Tail Power, our employees help us serve the communities we support by producing reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible electricity. In this role, the Industrial Services Engineer will support, manage, and grow our key customers by implementing new technology or management tools.

Examples of those activities will include:

  • Lead the energy transition by developing customer adoption strategies for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and dynamic load management programs.
  • Develop and implement tools for estimating and comparing costs of various customer scenarios, including: rates, billing impact, energy savings, rebates, return on investment, etc.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision makers at three levels (Day-To-Day, Managerial, Executive) within a strategic customer's organization.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to create and communicate marketing programs, services, technologies, and energy rates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the customers, including during times of power quality and reliability challenges, to meet sales goals.
  • Establish relationships and negotiate with potential strategic customers to establish new electric service agreements. Includes facilitating design, system implications and ‘cost of service’ studies.
  • Travel to assigned customer facilities [1-4] times per month to understand critical operations, Otter Tail’s service delivery, impact of outages, load growth, reliability requirements and identify potential enhanced service solutions.
Experience

  • Resourceful, positive team members who are results-driven and action-oriented
  • Strong public relations skills, including the ability to handle controversial situations, contract negotiations, and frequent public speaking, are vital to ensuring an excellent customer and community experience while meeting company goals.
  • A strategic growth mindset with analytical and project management skills will allow you to conceive solutions and successfully implement them.
  • Five years of experience in engineering, energy management, processing, manufacturing, HVAC, sales, or other technical/electrical/customer service, and CEM, PE, or EIT certification is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering preferred and/or a minimum of five years of commercial/industrial energy audit experience
