LED lighting saving energy in a Minnesota turkey barn

Energy-saving LED lighting for turkey barns: Take advantage of funding opportunities

At this week’s Toasty Turkeys event we shared all sorts of exciting funding options for getting LED lighting in turkey barns. We’ll share more details about the whole event in a future blog post.

For now, we wanted to be sure that you don’t miss out on these funding opportunities! Read through the four programs listed below.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture Livestock Investment Grant

  • Due December 10, 2014
  • Awarded before February 1, 2015 (so a quick turnaround)
  • Application is short and relatively easy. Best part? CERTs is happy to help you complete sections of it and write a Letter of Support. A little bird told us that odds of receiving this grant are very good.
  • Download an application

USDA NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives Program

  • Due December 19, 2014
  • Get an application in to receive a 100% cost-covered, comprehensive energy audit of your barn operations. If you already have an audit under your belt, see if it is eligible for moving forward to get some of your audit’s recommendations cost-shared by NRCS EQIP.
  • Stop by your local USDA office to work on an application—the field office staff are always willing to get through the paperwork with you!
  • Learn more about the program

Electric Utility Rebates

  • Due anytime—these are always available as long as there’s still money in the pot!
  • Get up to 50% of your project costs covered through a rebate from your electric utility. There’s little or no paperwork. Most electric utilities have staff willing to help you crunch the numbers to figure out your rebate with you.
  • Call your local utility to get started!

USDA Rural Development Rural Energy for America Program (REAP)

  • Deadline to be announced
  • Get 25% of your project costs covered through a grant or 75% covered through a loan. A new streamlined application will make applying easy enough to do without a grantwriter.
  • Check out the new application and watch for the funding cycle to open.
