Welcome, Emma Ryan!

Metro CERT is pleased to welcome Emma Ryan this summer as our Metro CERT Sustainable Communities Intern at the Great Plains Institute.

Emma’s work will focus mainly on assisting with the 2016 Accelerator clean energy projects and seed grant projects, as well as working to develop a shared clean energy vision. As a rising Environmental Studies senior at Yale, she studies energy, sustainability, and health and has been involved with research-scale solar projects and solar outreach and education at Yale for three years. She will be writing her senior thesis on the intersection between climate change and human health, and is excited to be working with the Metro CERT team this summer on clean energy use and energy efficiency.

Kia ora, Jinny Kim!

The Statewide CERTs office at the University of Minnesota’s Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships and Extension is excited to have Jinny Kim working with us as a Program Assistant this summer.

Jinny’s efforts might include a new version of the Right Light Guide, assistance with CERTs strategic planning, cooperative engagement, and door-to-door outreach on potential energy projects. Jinny is currently attending Macalester College, where she is studying Economics and Geography, with a concentration in International Development. She has been awarded Macalester Summer Internship Grant to support her experience at CERTs this summer. This summer, she is also working with the Science Museum of Minnesota as an Environmental Justice intern. She is excited to engage with different communities and discover more about sustainable community development. Jinny hopes to integrate environmental justice into her academics and work, as a new member of Macalester’s Department of Multicultural Life. She aims to learn more about empowering people of color and women, especially regarding environmental policies and practices. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, making music, exploring the Twin Cities (and being slightly homesick for New Zealand and Korea).
