Exciting solar incentives launched by Minnesota Power shine light on new opportunities

If you live in Minnesota Power’s service territory, installing solar on your home, business or even non-profit just got a lot more affordable! Minnesota Power announced a robust package of solar incentives on February 21st that could pay up to 60% of new solar electrical systems for homeowners and businesses.

“This is a great bundle of incentives, “says Bill Mittlefehldt, Northeast Coordinator for the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs). “Minnesota Power should be commended for their encouragement of energy efficiency as a key first-step when implementing renewable energy systems. Also, folks should note Minnesota Power’s support of Minnesota solar companies, and keeping those manufacturing jobs here in our state.”

Minnesota Power is adding an extra $1,000 per kilowatt if the solar panels are made in Minnesota, which would include TenKSolar in Bloomington and Silicon Energy in Mountain Iron.

“In the case of Silicon Energy’s panels, you could potentially be getting panels made by your neighbors and then installed by your neighbors…Jobs don’t get much more local than that,” Mittlefehldt noted.
