We’ve come a long way over the past 143 years:
from Edison’s first power plant in 1882, to cooperation among utilities in the 1920s, to the Rural Electrification Act of 1936, to the 1994 development of the Buffalo Ridge Wind Farm, to Minnesota’s first large-scale solar + storage facility in 2018, to now in 2025, when a third of our electricity comes from renewable energy.
It’s an incredible system that makes it possible to light up our homes by just flipping a switch.
