Writing assistance for food shelf grant proposals recap

October 2023

CERTs works with food shelves across the state to help them use less energy so they can focus their funds on the work they do for people.

food shelf mural Along with our good friends at SuperShelf, we help food shelves implement energy efficiency and renewable energy, like solar energy, where and when it's possible. We bring programming to the food shelves to provide educational resources and often free DIY energy-saving products to their shoppers.

At the end of September, the Department of Human Services announced a grant opportunity to fund improvements for food shelves. The proposed grant could cover 100% of a large project, such as a new roof, solar panels, doors, windows, efficient lighting, or appliances.

The grant application deadline is Nov. 16, 2023, and we're working with over 60 food shelves on their applications.

On Oct. 9, we hosted a "Writing Assistance for DHS Grant Proposal for Food Shelves" webinar with Monika Vadali of the Great Plains Institute. The webinar provided an overview of the grant and writing assistance, including things to look out for when writing a proposal.
