The ARRA has created new opportunities for business structure, finance and ownership of renewable energy projects with incentives such as the Section 1603 Grant in lieu of tax credits.
As legal, accounting, tax, and business advisers sort through these new programs, it is important that Community Wind projects have access to the information to understand their impact and design their business models to leverage these and other incentives. Windustry and its partners present this webinar series free of charge to provide this up-to-date information analysis and expertise about the many new incentives that will be instrumental in getting Community Wind and Community Energy projects into service.

Moderator: Lisa Daniels, Windustry: Lisa M. Daniels, Executive Director and founder of Windustry, has been providing wind energy information and technical assistance to farmers, ranchers, elected officials, rural utilities and other interested groups since 1995. Lisa leads Windustry in contracts with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and as a partner on the Wind Powering America initiative with the U.S. Department of Energy. Lisa serves on the national steering committees for the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative, the American Wind Energy Association’s Community Wind Work Group, Women of Wind Energy and the Alliance for Renewable Energy.
Panelist: Jim Duffy, Nixon Peabody LLP: James F. Duffy concentrates his practice on transactions involving federal income tax credits and other significant federal and state income tax incentives, including Production Tax Credits for wind and other forms of renewable energy and Energy Investment Tax Credits for solar. He has represented numerous developers, investors, syndicators and lenders in structuring and closing such transactions and is a frequent speaker on tax-oriented investment structures at industry conferences and seminars.
Panelist: Matt Ferguson, Reznick Group: Matt Ferguson, an attorney, is a Principal with Reznick Group, P.C. and the leader of the Renewable Energy Group. Matt promotes renewable energy through business transactions and policy development, Matt advises clients on all energy-related and clean-tech transactions. Matt also assists current clients with project financing utilizing incentives such as tax credits and grants. He is the architect of the RREX underwriting standard that utilities and financial institutions use to ascertain renewable energy project reliability and risk management.
Panelist: Julie Newland, Reznick Group: Julie Newland has 12+ years of public accounting experience which includes extensive audit and accounting experience. Ms. Newland’s primary areas of industry experience include real estate, construction, and non-profit organizations. Concentrating in the real estate arena, Ms. Newland provides services to developers and owners of affording housing developments, syndicators, investors, property management companies as well as lenders.
Panelist: Kevin Schulte, Sustainable Energy Developments: Kevin Schulte is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a co-founder of SED. Schulte is also responsible for the Business Development group which includes sales, marketing, public relations, policy and technology selection as well as providing technical guidance and project financing expertise to all projects. He has concentrated chiefly on designing economically viable decentralized wind turbine installations through regulatory analyses and advancement, innovative financial modeling, public education and turbine selection.
