Minneapolis Climate Action (MCA) is a 501c(3) nonprofit founded in 2007 by a group of dedicated individuals committed to addressing climate change in their community. After almost 10 years of working at the neighborhood level and piloting the city curbside organics recycling program, the organization expanded to promote action on climate change in greater Minneapolis. Minneapolis Climate Action holds a unique place in our environmental landscape, focusing on action, policy and culture shift in Minneapolis, while partnering and collaborating with regional, culturally specific, and national organizations.

Primary Duties

Position Summary: 

The Career Navigator acts as a bridge between participants, training programs, employers, and community resources to remove barriers and promote long-term success.  The Career Navigator provides essential support to participants, guiding them through training, education, and into sustainable employment. This role focuses on individualized coaching, career planning, and job readiness/professional training, connecting participants with vital resources. The ultimate goal is to facilitate successful entry and advancement in high-demand fields, especially green careers and clean energy. By serving as a liaison between participants, training programs, employers, and community resources, the Career Navigator helps overcome barriers and fosters long-term success.

The Career Navigator plays a critical role in empowering individuals to achieve economic stability and personal growth, while also contributing to the development of a skilled workforce for high-demand, sustainable industries.

Scope of Work:

Participants Support & Coaching

  • Conduct intake assessments to understand participant career goals. Skills and support needs.
  • Develop personalized career plans with achievable milestones.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching, career coaching, career counseling, and ongoing support throughout training and job placement.
  • Identify and help resolve barriers to employment, such as transportation, childcare, housing, or financial challenges.

Job Readiness & Placement

  • Facilitate job readiness workshops (resume writing, interview skills, workplace expectations)
  • Connect participants to job opportunities, internships, apprenticeships, and networking events.
  • Maintain strong relationships with employers and training providers to align participant skills with job openings.
  • Monitor job retention and provide post-placement follow-up to support career advancement.

Partnership & Program Coordination

  • Collaborate with training partners, community organizations, and employers to coordinate participant services.
  • Serve as a liaison between program participants and employment partners.
  • Attend community events, job fairs, and networking meetings to promote the program.

Data Tracking & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate participant records in the case management system.
  • Track progress toward career goals, certifications, and job placement.
  • Prepare reports for program evaluation and funding requirements.
Experience

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in career coaching, case management, workforce development, or related field.
  • Knowledge of green career pathways, clean energy industries, and /or sustainability-related occupations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite and case management databases.
  • Cultural Competent. Experience working with underrepresented communities and individuals facing employment barriers.
  • Prioritization given to individuals with a professional Career Coaching certification.

Flexible part-time position with generous compensation based on 4 areas of experience: Employer relationship management, Coaching Expertise, Community Relations, Green Industry, and/or Union Knowledge.
