CERTs staff lit up the St. Cloud Sustainability EXPO on Earth Day 2012

The second annual St. Cloud Sustainability EXPO on Earth Day 2012 rocked. Jeff Vetsch, West Central CERT Coordinator, and Angela Headlee, Central CERT Coordinator, joined forces to light up the event with an LED, CFL, and incandescent light bulb display.

Angela and Jeff engaged EXPO attendees with valuable information on energy savings that can be derived by changing from incandescent light bulbs to CFLs or LEDs. A consumer can save up to 75% in energy costs by switching to CFLs or up to 85% by changing to LEDs. The dynamic duo was eager to meet and greet people with the fabulous new CERTs Right Light Guide.

The guide provides extremely valuable information to consumers about the different types of light bulbs available and gives a clear and concise cost comparison of the four primary types of light bulbs. Click here to download the guide. Also, remember to check with your utility company about possible rebates for CFLs or LEDs when considering purchasing new light bulbs.

The persistent CERTs duo didn’t stop with just chatting about lights. They corralled guests towards their display to ask them if they had questions about any renewable options at which time the team informed interested attendees of the various opportunities available with solar in rural Minnesota including rebates available with many utility companies (Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards*Rewards_-_MN and Minnesota Power SolarSense, for instance). Many people don’t realize the solar potential that the state of Minnesota has. Minnesota has as much solar potential as much of Texas and Florida—in other words, solar works in Minnesota!

The St. Cloud Sustainability EXPO was a well-attended, successful event. The Jeff and Angela strongly encourage all of the readers of this article to check out the EXPO next year! We hope to see you then!
