Clean energy is the ultimate payback for Minneapolis solar pioneer Brian Ross and his family

Brian Ross, a Minneapolis resident and urban planner who was an early adopter of solar energy, says the reward of solar for his family is that it provides free, clean energy that they can use to power their home, independent of uncertain oil and gas prices.

The solar shingles on his family’s roof provide about 25% of the electricity they use in a year, and a solar thermal hot water system provides for about 75% of their hot water needs.

Brian also had this to say: “With solar, the fuel is free and it’s never going to run out. In fact, I can put energy generated that we don’t use back on the grid and the utility pays me. Also, a solar system increases the value of my home and makes it almost energy-independent.”
