Salary Range: $29.92 - $44.38 / hourly; $62,472 - $92,665 / annually

Travel Required: Yes - up to 5% of the time

Primary Duties

Serve as the State Energy Office's Grid Modernization Subject Matter Expert and lead research analyst on engineering and technical matters focused on:

  • Renewable energy and emerging energy technologies
  • How renewables and emerging energy technologies relate to areas of transmission, distribution, micro-grids and energy storage
  • How electric vehicle charging infrastructure may impact the grid

This position will provide policy and technical guidance, direction and expertise to management and staff on difficult and sensitive cases, dockets, and policy initiatives, including energy storage, interconnection, grid modernization, and planning, per Minn. Stat. 216C.261 and 216C.09 a. (12). As such, this team member will need have strong engineering and technical skills and have strong oral and written communication skills (both formal and informal). 

Experience

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering or science degree AND three (3) years professional experience in the areas of engineering, energy generation, renewable energy, or energy policy.

OR

An advanced degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering or science degree AND two (2) years professional experience in the areas of engineering, energy generation, renewable energy, or energy policy.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience in the areas of engineering, energy generation, renewable energy, or energy policy.

Experience in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Smart grids, microgrids, Solar/Wind project engineering or Project development, Electrical Generation 

Must be able to work independently, and as a member of a team. 
Must have excellent organizational skills. 
Must have focus and attention to detail. 
Must have excellent writing and communication skills and be able to work closely with lead staff and decision makers
Must have excellent Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering
Ability to set and track project implementation schedules, and to prioritize and meet goals under strict deadlines and changing priorities
Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to condense and explain technical information in a concise manner that can be understood by diverse constituents such as leadership, local units of government, nonprofits, affordable housing providers, contractors and the general public.
Experience working on large government projects or stakeholder engagement initiatives related to energy.

Physical Requirements
Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
