Event Description

This free event welcomes all, young and old, to learn how to make healthy choices for themselves and their Earth. A variety of exhibitors related to eco-friendly living and youth resources will be set up throughout the day. Youth can participate in the YMCA Kids Passport activity to receive stamps from exhibitors they visit and become eligible to win prizes.

The YMCA will be hosting a free Kids Color Fun Run beginning at 11:00 A.M. T-shirts will be given to the first 200 youth in attendance. Parents are invited to listen to a guest speaker on children's health taking place prior to the run at 10:15 A.M. Other youth activities will be available throughout the day.

Other featured speakers include:

Jane Dow: How Plastic is Harming Planetary Life and Actions You Can Take -11:45 A.M.

CERTs (Clean Energy Resource Teams): Energy Efficiency in the Home -12:45 P.M.

Great River Energy: Knowing EV’s with GRE -1:15 P.M.

The day will feature an art exhibit by four local artists who created panels depicting Kandiyohi’s changing seasons. The artwork was converted into posters that third graders across the county are coloring in honor of Earth Month. Some of the posters will be displayed at the event, and additional posters will be available for youth to color. Participants will have their names put in a drawing for environmentally friendly art supplies. This opportunity was made possible through a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and culture heritage fund and an appropriation from the MN State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund.

The Healthy Earth, Healthy Kids event hopes to provide education and connection to resources that keep our kids and our planet healthy and thriving into the future. Be involved in a bright future for our community!
