Primary Duties
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform site visits of industrial facilities to provide technical assistance for waste reduction (air emissions, solid, and hazardous), water conservation, and energy efficiency. May include fuel and chemical substitutions, mechanical changes, emissions controls, and energy efficiency projects.
- Conduct outreach to businesses through professional associations and other channels in order to connect businesses with technical resources while developing expertise in target industry sectors.
- Research and track funding opportunities that are applicable to projects and connect facilities with these opportunities.
- Determine what capital or mechanical projects are already planned at facilities.
- Coordinate with local businesses to ensure the pollution reduction projects will meet their needs and work will cause minimal interference.
- Identify qualifying industrial facilities for funding, allocate City incentive funds, and manage contracts. Track businesses efforts to implement pollution reduction projects to ensure projects move through to completion.
- Calculate and document pollution reductions and cost savings from pollution reduction projects. Communicate pollution reductions and cost savings options effectively with facilities.
- Investigate and respond to public and City Council inquires on various facilities, projects, and issues. Communicate complex and technical issues across City leadership and Council members.
- Work with other agencies, organizations, businesses, and City Departments on initiatives and projects as required.
- Participate as the City's Representative at various meetings and give presentations as needed
- Serve as a technical expert on environmental regulatory issues such as permit applications, mechanical equipment, plan review, and ordinance implementation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, training, and learning cohorts or trade groups
Experience
Required Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or other engineering field; sustainable materials; sustainable systems management; industrial maintenance; or similar.
Minimum Experience:
At least five years of experience in industrial operations.
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered.
