Instrument & Control Technician- OWEF

Under supervision, assists with the performance of corrective and preventative maintenance, repair, and calibration of all Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems and power plant instruments and controls. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

• Performs maintenance, repair, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards for the facility’s Continuous Emission Monitoring systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance tasks associated with instruments, including calibration, and control systems on heavy stationary boilers, electrical generation and transmission equipment, and related auxiliary support systems.
• Maintains and repairs the facility’s instrument and control systems.
• Performs all electrical and instrument control work in the facility.
• Prepares and maintains records and reports. Maintains the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
• Collaborates with others in the installation and modification of plant instrument and control equipment.
• Fabricates custom control subsystems for plant equipment and auxiliary systems.
• Performs miscellaneous housekeeping in and around the work area.
• Reports accidents.
• Assists in maintaining spare parts and materials inventory.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the generation of steam and electric power.
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and standards involved in performing maintenance on Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws governing pollution monitoring and control compliance.
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and functioning involved in performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely in and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of the standards, materials, and methods of the mechanical and electrical trades.
• Knowledge of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety.
• Knowledge of mechanical and piping codes.
• Skill in the use of Instrument and Control tools and equipment from simple hand tools to complex diagnostic equipment.
• Skill in operating and maintaining electrical power generation and transmission equipment, district energy systems, chillers, absorbers, air pollution control equipment and water supply systems.
• Skill in the use of computers and technology including computer-based preventive maintenance management systems.
• Ability to recognize and diagnose the faulty operation of various power plant equipment and instrument and control systems.
• Ability to follow and understand written and verbal instructions and procedures.
• Ability to monitor and evaluate programs and organizational performance to assess efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ability to read and understand electrical plans, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
