Lighting retrofit project at Sharing and Caring Hands helps charity better serve their mission

Sharing and Caring Hands has been serving the needs of the poor in Minneapolis since 1985. They are set up to be a safety net organization to help with whatever needs are not being met, including but not limited to providing meals, clothing, showers, shelter, transportation help, rent deposits, rent help, medical assistance, dental care, furniture, school expenses, funeral assistance, and other miscellaneous needs.

We were excited when Sharing and Caring Hands came to Cedar Creek Energy and Center for Energy and Environment to retrofit their lighting, lowering their energy costs and becoming more energy efficient. As a donation-based organization that relies primarily on time, money, goods, and services donated by the community and its volunteers, budget dollars are precious.

Each month, over 20,000 people come to their facility for assistance where Sharing and Caring Hands spends more than $400,000 to help these less-fortunate citizens. The lighting retrofit project provided by Cedar Creek Energy will save approximately $8,000 annually off their expenses.

The adoption of this energy efficient technology brings Sharing and Caring Hands another step further in providing for those in need in their local community.

Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) runs the One-Stop Efficiency Shop, a full-service rebate program available to nonprofits and small businesses in Xcel Energy’s Minnesota service territory with an electric demand of 400 kWh or less. CEE has even more information about the Sharing and Caring Hands project in a post on their website.
