Macalester student CJ Denney serving Metro communities

CJ Denney, a sophomore studying biology and environmental studies at Macalester College in Saint Paul, will be serving Minnesota communities as an intern with Metro CERT for the 2020-2021 academic year.

We asked CJ to share a bit about himself and what brought him to CERTs: "I’m excited to learn more about clean energy initiatives and how we can implement them in our very own communities. I’m currently studying biology and environmental studies at Macalester. Originally, I’m from North Carolina, but I jumped at the chance of getting out and going to the “big city”! My favorite thing to do is travel, so moving to Minnesota was a huge, but very welcome change. A lot of my academic focus and civic engagement at Macalester has been rooted in social and environmental justice. This really means studying the effects of discriminatory policies, understanding how people become disenfranchised, and enacting some sort of change for the better. At Metro CERT, I hope to work closely with communities to connect them to resources that take energy burdens off their shoulders." Welcome, CJ!
