Primary Duties
  • Serve as the primary EHS resource for all projects and operational power plants within the assigned region.
  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of EHS programs and procedures tailored to regional needs.
  • Support the project team and operations team in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations.  Collaborate with related departments to address compliance issues.
  • Partner with management, construction teams, and plant personnel to identify hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies with control barriers.
  • Plan and conduct audits (internal and third-party) of contractor programs and work activities.
  • Assist the Plant Managers and Construction team with the coordination of emergency drills.
  • Lead incident response activities, including root cause analysis and incident investigations, ensuring timely resolution and reporting.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, training, and engagement with site teams.
  • Oversee and conduct safety kick-offs for construction and operational milestones, ensuring all teams are aligned with EHS expectations before major project phases.
  • Conduct internal EHS assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance with company standards.
  • Assist the Program Manager with EHS program development and updates, contributing expertise and feedback to enhance overall program effectiveness.
  • Work with Corporate EHS to review EHS data and current trends for the region.
  • Complete EHS safety briefings both video based and written to communicate good catches and incident investigation findings to the organization.
  • Provide basic environmental support for regional projects and plants, including SWPPP, SPCC, SDS review, vegetation management, and RCRA activities. Identify issues and escalate them to the Environmental Lead when specialized site assistance is required.
  • Assist with project and operational plant security and safety by supporting fire plans, physical security plans to help maintain the protection of the plant, personnel, and surrounding community.
Experience
  • Degree in engineering, occupational safety, or related field, or equivalent experience in renewable energy or EHS.
  • 5–7 years of experience in electrical power generation (renewable, nuclear, or fossil fuel), with at least 1 year in renewable energy preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA CFR1910 & CFR1926, NFPA70E, and regulations for Qualified Electrical Workers.
  • Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, NFPA 70e, and other relevant EHS standards.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and can fly as a passenger commercially or drive rental cars/company vehicles.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80%, sometimes on short notice with the ability to create and follow through on a travel schedule.  
    • The Regional EHS Lead is responsible for creating and managing a travel schedule and arranging travel accommodations. The travel schedule is aligned with departmental goals, while the Regional EHS Lead determines the methods for achieving these objectives.
    • Travel is typically Monday through Friday when traveling and home on the weekends unless there is an emergency.
    • When not traveling, the candidate should efficiently work remotely and complete assigned tasks and achieve annual goals while continuing to remotely support the projects and plants in the region.
    • Geronimo Power covers travel costs and the Regional EHS Lead is expected to ensure the travel costs meet the department budgetary requirements and meet employee handbook guidelines.
