Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness
POSITION SUMMARY
The Sr. Director of Organizational Effectiveness & Management is a senior leader who drives alignment between and among strategy, systems, and people to achieve sustainable, equitable impact. This role is both strategic and operational—leading internal planning, infrastructure, and people/culture while ensuring the organization operates with excellence, accountability, and care. Partnering with the President and senior team, the Director translates vision into action, builds high-functioning systems, and fosters a culture of learning and collaboration.

II. Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
- Champion cross-functional engagement, strengthening culture, camaraderie, and collaboration across teams.
- Lead organizational planning and performance management processes that align vision, goals, and resources.
- Translate strategic priorities into clear operational and program goals and support teams in developing project plans and measurable outcomes.
- Serve as a key thought partner and operational leader to the President and Board of Directors.
- Supervise and coach all Program and Operations Managers, supporting community impact, professional growth, and cross-team functioning.
Operations & Infrastructure
- Oversee and ensure effectiveness of core administrative functions, including HR, IT, facilities, and compliance.
- Drive process improvements that enhance efficiency, accountability, and team coordination and collaboration.
- Manage contracts, vendor relationships, and enterprise systems/platforms.
- Lead organization-wide planning processes to ensure resources and work plans are aligned with strategic priorities.
People & Culture
- Lead talent strategy, including equitable recruitment, onboarding, development, and performance systems.
- Standardize job responsibilities, titles, and salary ranges to ensure internal consistency and equity.
- Foster a values-aligned, inclusive, and learning-centered workplace that supports staff wellbeing and accountability.
- Supervise HR functions and strengthen policies that promote employee engagement and organizational health.
Organizational Learning & Improvement
- Build and steward systems for knowledge management, learning, funder reporting and evaluation.
- Embed feedback loops, reflection practices, and responsive planning into organizational routines.
- Drive cross-departmental coordination to ensure smooth implementation of initiatives.
Finance, Budgeting & Risk
- Support budgeting, financial planning, and reporting in partnership with the President and Finance consultant.
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures that safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure compliance.
- Anticipate and mitigate organizational risks; uphold legal and regulatory standards.
Additional Leadership
- Lead and manage special projects as assigned.
- Partner with Finance and the President to ensure the financial stability of programming and operations.
- Assume other leadership duties as needed to advance organizational goals.
IV. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Minimum 7 years of experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizational leadership with progressive responsibility, including 5+ years in a supervisory/management role.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management, HR or a related degree.
- Deep experience in operations, planning, finance, and people management.
- Strong systems thinker with a track record of strategic execution and culture building.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Knowledge or experience working in the American Indian Community.
- Ability to develop comprehensive work plans across organization.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a leadership team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
