Adopting planning and zoning best practices provides a foundation that can help facilitate the growth of solar energy while balancing other development priorities in a community. Implementing clear and consistent solar zoning codes can improve transparency, reduce costs, and barriers to solar development. This free training will provide communities with strategies for incorporating solar into plans, ordinances, and development regulations. The training will also discuss BESS facilities, an important component of energy resilience that poses its own distinct planning and zoning needs.
Since 2016, SolSmart has helped over 550 local governments prepare for solar energy market growth. With funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, we provide free technical assistance to help cities, counties, small towns, and regional organizations address increasing electric demand by offering energy options to residents and businesses.
