Primary Duties

The Transportation and Sustainability Planner:

  • Furthers the development of the region through intergovernmental cooperation, community development, sustainable development, long-range planning, and technical assistance.
  • Demonstrates subject-matter expertise in sustainable development principles and can see and explain connections between those principles and the planning challenges our communities wish to address.
  • Takes a lead role, with support from the Director of Transportation Planning, in developing Safe Routes to School, Scenic Byway, and related plans.
  • Takes a team role, with support from the Director of Climate and Sustainability Programs, in supporting efforts to increase climate resilience and clean energy production as well as energy efficiency across the region.
  • Assists in the implementation and in tracking the progression of the goals identified in previous Safe Routes to School plans.
  • Provides technical assistance to local units of government and others applying to state and federal programs.
  • Assists communities in determining their needs and priorities and in securing funding for projects.
  • Coordinates with our AmeriCorps member(s) on Safe Routes to School planning and implementation and climate and sustainability programs.
  • Gives public presentations regarding projects.
  • Responds to requests for information and assistance. Pursues opportunities and disseminates pertinent information to the public, government officials, and other stakeholders.
Experience

Related bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
